1. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information collected automatically, and information stored in your browser.
Information you provide
- Style inputs — occasion descriptions, preferred styles, gender, body type, color preferences, and budget ranges you enter when generating outfits.
- Wardrobe items — clothing descriptions and categories you add to the My Wardrobe feature, stored locally in your browser.
- Photos — images you upload when using the Scan a Photo feature. These are processed in real time to identify outfit items and are not stored on our servers after processing.
- Contact messages — your name, email address, and message content if you contact us directly.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, outfits generated, product links clicked, tabs viewed, and actions taken within the app.
- Device and browser data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, language settings, and referring URL.
- Session data — time spent on pages, click paths, and interaction patterns, collected to improve the service and diagnose issues.
Information stored in your browser
- localStorage — favorited outfits, wardrobe items, and saved looks are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly use a feature that requires it.
- Cookies and similar technologies — we use session cookies and third-party analytics cookies. See Section 3 for full details.
2. How we use your information
- To generate AI-powered outfit recommendations and product suggestions based on your inputs.
- To operate and maintain the ClosetIQ service, including monitoring uptime and diagnosing errors.
- To improve our AI recommendation quality and understand which features users find most useful.
- To analyze traffic patterns, understand how our site is discovered, and measure the effectiveness of product links.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or technical attacks on the service.
- To respond to messages or requests you send us.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information to serve personalized advertising, sell data to data brokers, or build advertising profiles.
3. Cookies and tracking technologies
We use the following types of cookies and tracking technologies:
Strictly necessary cookies
Session cookies that allow the site to function correctly (e.g., maintaining state during outfit generation). These cannot be disabled without breaking the service.
Analytics cookies
We use analytics tools (which may include services such as Google Analytics) to understand how users navigate the site, which features are used, and where traffic originates. These tools may set cookies on your device. Data collected is aggregated and anonymized where possible. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Affiliate tracking cookies
When you click a product link on ClosetIQ, you may be redirected through an affiliate tracking link. The retailer and/or affiliate network (such as Amazon Associates, ShareASale, Commission Junction, Impact, Rakuten, or similar networks) may set a cookie on your browser to attribute your visit and any resulting purchase to ClosetIQ. These cookies are set by third parties and governed by their own privacy policies.
Managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect how the site functions. For more information about managing cookies, visit allaboutcookies.org.
4. Affiliate links and third-party retailers
ClosetIQ contains links to products sold by third-party retailers. Many of these are affiliate links — clicking them may result in a cookie being placed on your device by the retailer or affiliate network. If you make a purchase after clicking an affiliate link, we may receive a commission.
We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information or any personal information you provide to a retailer. Each retailer's privacy policy governs the data they collect. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any retailer before completing a purchase.
See our full Affiliate Disclosure for more information about how affiliate links work.
5. Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — third-party vendors who help us operate the site (e.g., hosting providers, analytics tools, CDN providers) under confidentiality agreements and only for the purpose of providing services to us.
- Affiliate networks — anonymized click and conversion data may be shared with affiliate networks (such as Amazon Associates, ShareASale, Impact, Commission Junction, or Rakuten) as part of normal affiliate program operation. This data identifies ClosetIQ as the referring site but does not contain your personal information.
- Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ClosetIQ, its users, or others.
- Business transfers — if ClosetIQ is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via this policy before your information is transferred.
6. Data retention
- Server logs and analytics data — retained for up to 13 months, then deleted or anonymized.
- Photos uploaded for scanning — processed in real time and not retained beyond the active session.
- Contact messages — retained for up to 2 years to maintain a record of communications.
- Browser-stored data (localStorage) — persists until you clear your browser storage or uninstall your browser. You can clear this at any time in your browser's settings.
7. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. However, no internet service is 100% secure. You use ClosetIQ at your own risk and should take care with any sensitive information you share online.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Object to or restrict how we process your information.
- Data portability — receive your information in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
To clear data stored locally in your browser (wardrobe items, saved looks), open your browser's developer tools, go to Application → Local Storage, and clear the entries for this site. This does not require contacting us.
9. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
- Right to know — the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the purposes for which it is used, and whether it is shared or sold.
- Right to delete — request deletion of personal information we hold, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale — we do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.

To submit a California privacy request, email [email protected] with the subject line "California Privacy Request."
10. EEA and UK residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — to operate and improve the service, analyze usage, and prevent fraud.
- Consent — for analytics cookies and any other processing where we request your consent.
- Legal obligation — where processing is required by law.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For UK residents, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. For EEA residents, contact your local supervisory authority.
11. Children's privacy
ClosetIQ is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided personal information to us, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact [email protected].
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify users via a notice on the site. Your continued use of ClosetIQ after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
